You’ve heard the phrase before: everything has a place, and a place for everything. It’s the mantra of someone who is highly organized and in control. But here’s the question that really matters—is that you? Do you have everything locked down or is it your prepper problem?
For those of us who take preparedness seriously, there’s a deep satisfaction in knowing our supplies are stocked, our plans are made, and our gear is ready. But if we’re honest, there’s often an underlying tension. We do the work, we check the boxes, and yet something still nags at us. What happens when our best-laid plans fall apart?
Jesus Has It All Locked Down
Philippians 2:10 tells us that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow—of things in heaven, things on earth, and things under the earth. When you really sit with that scripture, you realize something profound. Jesus has it “all locked down.” Every knee, no matter the location or circumstance, will recognize that Jesus Christ is Lord. There is no place anyone could go, no corner of existence where His authority doesn’t reach.
And here’s what makes this even more encouraging for Christian preppers: it’s already in place. This isn’t something Jesus is working toward or trying to achieve. He already has control. It’s simply not evident to everyone yet.
A Personal Illustration
I experienced a small picture of this when I assumed my current role at work. There was a window of time between when I received the job and when the announcement went out to everyone else. During that period, I was already making decisions and doing what needed to be done in the new position, but not everyone realized it yet. My immediate team had a good idea, but to everyone outside that circle, it wasn’t official.
Jesus is like that. He is already in control. He has everything in the palm of His hands. Everything will bow down to Him. He is Lord and King. The world just doesn’t fully understand it yet.
God Is in Control—Even When the World Feels Crazy
Things might feel chaotic right now. One scroll through social media, the news, or alternative media reveals all kinds of turmoil happening all over the place. But Jesus is very much in control, and that’s good news for those of us who are believers. We’re on the side of the One who has it all in His hands.
Revelation 5:11-13 paints a picture of this reality in vivid terms. John describes hearing the voice of countless angels around the throne, ten thousand times ten thousand, proclaiming with a loud voice that worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and blessing. And then every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth, and in the sea joins in, declaring blessing, honor, glory, and power to Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.
That’s the God we serve. That’s the foundation our preparedness rests upon.
The Preparedness Application
Now, let me be clear—I believe you should be as prepared as you can be. You need to make your preparedness plans for the emergencies that could realistically happen in your area. If hurricanes threaten your region, prep for hurricanes. If winter storms are your concern, prep for winter storms. Earthquakes, wildfires, whatever applies to your situation—plan accordingly. And don’t forget the everyday emergencies either: flat tires, job loss, unexpected expenses. You need supplies, you need prepper gear, and you need to have all of that locked down through solid preparedness planning.
But here’s the thing. You also need to know that God has your back. Your plans can go awry. Your gear can fail. Your supplies can get lost or simply run out if an emergency extends longer than you anticipated. Even if everything works perfectly, circumstances can overwhelm your best preparations.
You need to know that God has your back no matter what happens. You need to trust Him.
Trust God With All of It
Here’s something I find interesting about many Christians. We’ll trust the Lord with our eternal destiny without hesitation. We’ve given our lives to Jesus, we know we’re going to heaven, and we’re settled on that front. But then with everything else in life, we operate differently. It’s almost like we’re saying, “I’ll handle all this other stuff, Jesus. Don’t worry about it. I just want to trust You for when I die.”
But you’ve got to know that Jesus has you and your preparedness too. Consider Noah. He trusted in the Lord and built the ark, but God brought the animals, sent the rain, and even shut the door behind Noah and his family. God had Noah, and He will have you too.
The Takeaway for Christian Preppers
Do the work. Make your plans. Organize your gear and supplies. Take preparedness planning seriously because it’s good stewardship of what God has given you. But let your complete trust rest in the One who already has everything locked down. He holds the heavens, the earth, everything below, and everything in the seas. He has it all in His control, and He has you in the palm of His hands.
There’s no better way to be prepared than to be right with Him. When you understand that God is in control, it changes how you approach every aspect of your preparedness. You work hard, but you rest easy. You plan thoroughly, but you hold those plans with open hands. You prepare faithfully, but your faith isn’t in your preparations—it’s in the One who sees the beginning from the end.
That’s what it means to truly have it all locked down.
Peace,
Todd
